Sarahthedoula

I am, among other things, a birth doula. Being a doula is about nurturing life and love, which is one of my passions. So I guess I'm a doula for a lot of people, not just for women giving birth. Stories seen here are presented with key details changed in order to protect the identity of the persons involved, and may from time to time be a combination of stories.

Do you see many....

This evening I was sitting on the sofa - writing in my journal, watching tv - when room-mate#1 (who was making cookies with a teenage friend of hers) calls out from the kitchen "Hey Sarah - K has a question for you...". You never know what is going to pop out of K's mouth, but the giggles from the kitchen should've warned me it would be something unusual. I go out to the kitchen and K asks, "So, do you see a lot of vaginas?" Being who I am, I explained the difference between the vagina and the vulva, then went on to explain my role as a doula (more waist up). I couldn't help myself - I want women to be educated about their bodies and their options.

A lovely indoor day

I slept in this morning. Did some stretches (10 minutes of Pilates doesn't really count as "exercise"). Read a great devotion book and a bit from my Bible. Made a fabulous breakfast (whole grain croissant with swiss cheese, ham, and scrambled egg). Did some cleaning. Enjoyed a cup of cofeee. I have a client and her support people coming here to talk about birth plan stuff in about an hour. I found out through MSN that a teen I worked with extensively a couple years ago is (early) pregnant. This will not be an easy doula experience. *Sigh* I can't turn away though - she'll need all the support she can get. N is coming over about 4pm to hang out with my roomies and I. Tomorrow we're going to look at a possible replacement car for me. Between the insurance money and my income tax refund I'll be able to afford it. I'm hoping its as good as it sounds. k. Time is ticking away. Gotta get out of my pj's and ready to visit with a client!

silly girl

....that's kinda what I feel like these days. Because this whole boyfriend thing is pretty amazing. You've 'met' him here as N-my friend the mechanic. Even though my life has been crazy, and the timing of us getting together initially seemed crazier still, everything in life seems better with N in it. (I told you - silly) Roomie #1 told me that it seems like I've backed away from the edge of the cliff these last two weeks. It's a good feeling.
