I'm steadily whittling away my list of things to do before leaving on Monday. ON MONDAY! A few things have had to be removed from the list as the "must-do's" take priority over the "want-to-do's"
At 9:30 last night night I purchased the last couple items needed for the team medical/first aid kit. It's a good thing I don't have any more to buy because the people at Walmart are going to think I'm nuts - I've been in there at least once a day, every day, this week. The major task now is to get my laundry done, so that I can finish packing. Currently I have two big piles on my bedroom floor: One for my carry-on and one for my checked bag. The carry-on luggage is limited to ONE bag only (a purse, laptop case, etc is not allowed as a 2nd piece) and can only weigh 13lbs (which is not very much). This has been posing a bit of a challenge for those of us leading the trip because we not only have to carry our personal items but also team-related materials.
I don't know how birth-related things will turn out while in Ghana. On the one hand we are ready and willing to assist as asked. And on the other hand, because our contacts are all men, we don't actually know if they've even thought about it. So I might come back without a single birth story to share with you.... lots of other stories though.
It's getting close to noon and I'm still in my pj's as I've been puttering around the apartment. My parents are picking me up at 12:30pm for lunch, and then an afternoon at the Waterfront Festival. I love the Waterfront Festival. Tonight is Fireworks for Canada Day down on the beach. There is a whole group of us who gather in the same place every year to watch the show.
I better get back to business....
